CALLING ALL TRANSPLANT RECIPIENTS……..
The Canadian Transplant Association invites organ transplant recipients and their supporters to meet in Calgary, Alberta the week of July 16 - 22, 2012 for the 6th Canadian Transplant Games.
What? You don’t think you’re athletic or up to this level of competition? WAIT…...the Canadian Transplant Games is not focused on elite athletic performance. It’s all about the pure joy of being healthy enough to participate. It’s about meeting other transplant recipients and the camaraderie and friendship that develop from that common bond. The Games are Canada’s largest organ donation awareness event. The goals of the Canadian Transplant Games are to:
- show the country the life that is possible for organ recipients
- encourage an active, healthy lifestyle after transplant
- raise public awareness and support for organ donation
- honour organ and tissue donors and donor families
- give hope to the 4000+ Canadians on transplant waiting lists
Did you know?
- The Canadian Transplant Association (CTA) will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2012
- The Games will immediately follow Calgary’s (100th) Centennial Stampede (July 6–15, 2012)
So, you can expect the 6th Canadian Transplant Games to be among our most exciting yet! We will be hosting athletic competition in all age categories for track & field athletics, swimming, tennis, table tennis, badminton, speed walking, 5-pin & 10-pin bowling, lawn bowl, golf, cycling and more including group events like volleyball and the very popular East-versus-West Canada Cup.
Athletes and their supporters will enjoy the excellent accommodations of the Hotel Alma/Residence complex at the University of Calgary which will serve as the Athlete’s Village and participants will have access to several sport/recreation facilities on campus.
As always, the CTA is committed to keeping the Games affordable for our participants through fundraising and corporate sponsorship. On-line registration will be available this year to make the process quick and easy. So there’s no reason to be disappointed!! Save the date and watch this website for details about the Games as they become available. If you have any questions, if you would like to volunteer, make a donation or you know someone who can help, please contact Jennifer Holman at jenniferholman@txworks.ca or Jody Yakubowski at jyakubowski@shaw.ca
Calgary is famous for its Western hospitality and they can’t wait to welcome transplant recipients for this exciting event – a chance to show the world that organ donation really does work; a chance to honour the donors and donor families; a chance to make memories that will last a lifetime. SEE YOU IN CALGARY!!
