Gaston Martin, Regional Director, Québec
~ NOTE: REGISTRATION EXTENDED TO END OF MAY ~
Québec City will be the host of the 5th Canadian Transplant Games, Aug 9-14th, 2010! These Games, which should attract more than 400 participants accompanied by their love ones, are a unique opportunity for transplant recipients from all over Canada to gather in a friendly and warm atmosphere… in beautiful Québec City.
Held for the first time in Sherbrooke in August 2000, the Canadian Transplant Games take place in a different city every two years. Since the first games, the participation rate has more than quadrupled! The goal of the Games is to increase public awareness on organ and tissue donation by showing that not only does transplantation save lives, but that the recipients can return to a full and active life.
Aside from promoting organ donor awareness, the Games give the transplant recipients and their families the opportunity to meet organ donors families and to share moments with them and express their gratitude. Preparing for the competition encourages the participants to improve their fitness and to lead a more active life.
All transplant recipients, young and old, competitive or recreational athletes can be part of the Games! Activities and sports events include tennis, swimming, track and field, bowling and golf, to name just a few. Each one can find his or her own sport’s match. The most important thing is to be there and have fun!
Headed up by the Canadian Transplant Association (CTA), the 2010 Canadian Games in Quebec will be organized by MC2 Expérience stratégique, a not-for-profit organization specializing in event planning who utilize university students and graduates. Lodging and most of the Games events and competitions will take place on the University of Laval campus.
